Tim O’Reilly is publishing a new report,  “Twitter and the Micromessaging Revolution”. It costs $250 at  http://radar.oreilly.com/research/twitter-report.html.      Here are ten solid things the report provides.    So even if you don’t buy the report, you get a feel for why Twitter is important.

1. Highly readable investigation into why Twitter works–and why it’s important

2. Growth statistics from Twitter, synthesized with stories and analysis to give you a comprehensive picture of the Twittersphere

3. Examines the entire micro-messaging ecosystem, including the various players, where Twitter fits and some new developments

4. Clever and useful tips on how to integrate Twitter into your business, backed up by stories about how others are using Twitter successfully

5. Why follower counts may not be the best way to measure Twitter influence, and an alternate model, analogous to Google Page Rank, for identifying influential users

6. Why and how Twitter’s loose social graph and the default public nature of Twittering make for a remarkably intuitive and interesting social network

7. Exclusive interviews with Twitter founders and leading users

8. Gentle introduction to using Twitter for the newbie

9. Twitter business models and why Twitter data is important

10. Dozens of links to key resources and examples

Another great post found at SocialComputingMagazine.com

Venkatesh Rao takes a provocative and information-packed look at the knowledge management and social media, casting them in the light of a generational conflict. It’s not as dire as he makes out but many of the archetypes he discusses have a ring of truth in them. Good fodder for discussion at the very least. BTW, agree with my colleague Jeff Kelly that KM-ers usually are very involved in SM.

This article is not aimed at the Enterprise, but I felt it was worth sharing anyway.

The Media Equation article in the Nov. 9 New York Times, by David Carr, entitled, “How Obama tapped into Social Networks’ Power“, points to real “change on the ground” that affects us all.

I’d like to refer you to Chris O’Brien’s article on the San Jose Mercury News site.

In his interview with Tim O’Reilly (of  O’Reilly Publishing, and credited with coining the term “Web 2.0″),  he quotes Tim as saying, “”The Internet has become the new platform for computing. Is this going away? Do you think we’re done yet? No, this is just beginning.”      Read on:
